In a significant advancement for the energy sector, China has officially launched the Shenhai Yihao, also known as Deep Sea No. 1, its first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field. Located in the waters southeast of Hainan, China\'s southernmost island province, the project became operational on Friday.
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the operator of the Shenhai Yihao project, highlighted that this milestone underscores China\'s leading position in developing oil and gas resources under complex conditions. With a proven reserve exceeding 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the phase II project promises a peak annual output of more than 1.5 billion cubic meters.
The Shenhai Yihao project is a testament to China\'s technological prowess and commitment to expanding its energy portfolio. It comprises 12 deepwater gas wells, a comprehensive processing platform weighing over 14,000 tonnes, and five submarine pipelines extending approximately 250 kilometers. These state-of-the-art facilities are designed to efficiently harness and transport natural gas, contributing to China\'s energy security and economic growth.
As global energy demands continue to rise, projects like Shenhai Yihao play a crucial role in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply. This development not only reinforces China\'s capabilities in the oil and gas sector but also sets the stage for future advancements in deepwater exploration and production.
