China Surpasses 4 Million 5G Base Stations, Connecting Millions More

The Chinese mainland has made a significant leap in its digital infrastructure, installing over 4 million 5G base stations by the end of August. This milestone accounts for 32.1% of all mobile base stations in the country, reflecting China’s commitment to expanding its high-speed internet capabilities.

With 966 million 5G mobile phone users, which make up 54.3% of the total mobile user base, the adoption of 5G technology is rapidly transforming everyday life. The widespread deployment of 5G has extended high-speed internet access to every city, 5G connectivity to every rural town, and broadband connections to every village, bridging the digital divide.

As the user base continues to grow, the applications of 5G services are becoming more diverse and deeply integrated into social life. This integration is driving the digital transformation of the economy, enabling innovations across various sectors such as healthcare, education, and smart manufacturing.

An official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) emphasized that the Chinese mainland will adhere to a principle of moderate advancement. The focus remains on strengthening network infrastructure and expanding the scale of 5G applications to ensure that the 5G network effectively serves society and enhances the daily lives of the public.
