The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Daren Tang has lauded the Chinese mainland's significant contributions to the global intellectual property (IP) landscape.
In a recent interview with Chinese media in Beijing, Tang highlighted China's remarkable surge in IP applications, positioning the country as the largest filer of international patent applications worldwide.
WIPO's preliminary report on the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 reveals that China hosts 26 of the top 100 science and technology innovation clusters globally, maintaining its status as the leading innovator for the second consecutive year.
\"I think this shows that the Chinese mainland has paid a lot of attention to research and development, and scientific and industrial innovation,\" Tang remarked. He expressed confidence that this positive trend is set to continue.
The Chinese mainland's commitment to high-quality development is increasingly emphasizing science, technology, and innovation, Tang added.
Tang also attended the opening ceremony of the third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property in Beijing on September 11. He praised the conference for fostering international collaboration and the exchange of innovative ideas.
Furthermore, Tang commended the growing participation of Chinese companies in the WIPO GREEN program, where they contribute green technologies and support sustainable initiatives.
\"I think this way we can show the world that IP is not just to address local challenges and national challenges, but also global challenges,\" Tang concluded.
