Apple’s New iPhone to Feature Arm’s V9 Chip, Enhancing AI Performance

Apple is gearing up for its highly anticipated fall event on September 9 at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The event, set to unveil a series of new iPhones and updates to other devices and apps, will introduce the company's latest A18 chip.

According to a report by the Financial Times, the new A18 chip has been developed using SoftBank-owned Arm's newest V9 chip design. This collaboration marks a significant boost for Arm's chip technology, which now accounts for 50 percent of smartphone revenue.

Apple's partnership with Arm, established in September last year, extends beyond 2040, cementing a long-standing relationship between the two tech giants. Arm, which owns the intellectual property behind the computing architecture for most of the world's smartphones, licenses its technology to Apple and many other companies.

The collaboration is not new. Apple was one of the initial companies that partnered to found Arm in 1990, preceding the release of its "Newton" handheld computer in 1993, which utilized an Arm-based processor chip. Although the Newton was not a commercial success, Arm went on to dominate the mobile phone chip market thanks to its low power consumption, which extends battery life significantly.

With the integration of Arm's V9 chip, the new iPhone is expected to offer enhanced AI capabilities, paving the way for more advanced features and improved performance across Apple's ecosystem of devices.
