China has established the world's largest and most comprehensive supply chain for new energy equipment, according to a senior government official.
Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), highlighted China's significant strides in energy efficiency, noting a 7.3 percent reduction in energy intensity between 2021 and 2023. Zhao made these remarks during celebrations for China's second National Ecology Day on August 15.
Under Zhao's leadership, China has maintained its position as the global leader in new energy capacity, expanding rapidly and dominating the photovoltaic equipment manufacturing sector for 16 consecutive years. The country now supplies 70 percent of the global photovoltaic market and accounts for 60 percent of the world's wind power equipment.
In the automotive sector, the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China has reached an impressive 35.2 percent, surpassing other major economies. This achievement underscores China's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
On August 11, the NDRC unveiled guidelines for a green transition, making sustainability a central focus in China's recent developments. In addition to celebrating its accomplishments, China convened expert seminars on National Ecology Day to further advance ecological development and reinforce its dedication to environmental stewardship.
