The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor has achieved a significant milestone in 2024, transporting over 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers for rail-sea intermodal transportation by August 2nd. This marks the highest level for the same period in all previous years, according to China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
Located in the hinterlands of the western regions in the Chinese mainland, the trade corridor seamlessly connects the Silk Road Economic Belt from the north, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road from the south, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This strategic positioning enhances the corridor’s role in facilitating efficient and sustainable global trade.
Since the inception of the overall plan five years ago, more than 3.1 million TEUs have been transported via the corridor, underscoring its vital contribution to international logistics and economic growth. The continuous increase in container shipments reflects the corridor’s growing importance in connecting major economic regions and supporting the dynamic needs of global commerce.
As businesses and economies become increasingly interconnected, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor stands out as a pivotal infrastructure project, driving innovation and efficiency in the transportation sector. Its success not only boosts regional economies but also reinforces the interconnectedness of global markets, making it a cornerstone for future trade developments.
