Nepal Launches DJI Drone Initiative for Mountain Waste Collection

Nepal is set to enhance its environmental conservation efforts with the introduction of DJI drones for waste collection on some of its highest peaks. Starting next month, these advanced drones will be deployed to ferry garbage from Mount Ama Dablam, with plans to expand operations to Mount Qomolangma and Mount Nuptse as the new mountaineering season begins.

The collaboration was formalized on August 3 through a memorandum of understanding between the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, and Airlift Technology Pvt, Ltd. Jagat Prasad Bhusal, chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, announced that Airlift Technology will provide drone services free of charge for the next two years.

This initiative follows a successful test in April, when a DJI drone completed the first-ever delivery test on Mount Qomolangma from the Nepali side. The achievement marks a significant step forward in utilizing drone technology for high-altitude mountaineering support, emergency rescue operations, and environmental protection.

By leveraging these innovative drones, Nepal aims to maintain the pristine condition of its majestic mountains while supporting the safety and efficiency of mountaineering activities. This project underscores Nepal's commitment to sustainable practices and technological advancement in preserving its natural heritage.
