A new high-speed railway commenced trial operations on Tuesday, connecting the economic powerhouses of Hangzhou and Wenzhou in the eastern Chinese mainland's Yangtze River Delta region.
Spanning 260 kilometers with a designed speed of 350 km per hour, the railway features nine stations, providing a swift transit solution that interlinks key hubs such as Hangzhou, Yiwu, and Wenzhou. This region is renowned as one of the most economically vibrant areas in China.
Wang Chang, the project lead from the railway subsidiary of the Zhejiang Development and Planning Institute, highlighted that the railway serves as a national pilot for mixed ownership reform, introducing social capital into railway construction.
The inter-city rail seamlessly integrates with the delta's high-speed network, enhancing access to rich tourism destinations. Notable sites like Hangzhou, often called \"Heaven on Earth\" for its stunning architecture, as well as Xianhua Mountain and Nanxi River, are now more accessible thanks to the new line.
Wang emphasized that the railway is pivotal for facilitating public travel and fostering higher-quality integrated development within the Yangtze River Delta, marking a significant step towards regional economic and social advancement.
