The Chinese mainland has introduced comprehensive protocols targeting measles, dengue fever, and avian influenza, aiming to standardize the diagnosis and treatment of these infectious diseases, according to the National Health Commission on Monday.
These new guidelines cover various aspects, including etiology, epidemiology, pathological changes, clinical symptoms, complications, laboratory testing, identification and diagnosis, as well as treatment and prevention strategies for each infection.
Measles: A High-Risk Infection
One of the protocols highlights that all groups are susceptible to the measles virus. The infection rate exceeds 90 percent among individuals without immunity after exposure, underscoring the virus's highly contagious nature.
Dengue Fever: Early Detection is Key
The dengue fever protocol emphasizes the critical importance of early identification and timely treatment of severe cases. It recommends isolating patients from mosquitoes and removing isolation if the disease course exceeds five days and the patient's body temperature has naturally returned to normal for over 24 hours.
Avian Influenza: Preventing Transmission
The avian influenza protocol advises avoiding contact with sick or dead animals and maintaining healthy dietary habits to prevent infection. It also advises individuals showing symptoms like fever to seek medical attention promptly and inform physicians about any recent contact with birds or visits to poultry markets.
Strengthening Public Health Services
In a move to bolster public health service capabilities, pilot programs are being rolled out to enhance collaboration between hospitals and disease prevention and control institutions. Initiatives also include installing disease control supervisors at medical facilities and granting prescription rights to public health physicians.
