Ningde Nuclear Plant Breaks Ground on New Power Unit

Exciting developments are underway at China's Ningde Nuclear Power Plant in Fujian Province. Construction of the No. 5 power unit officially began on Sunday, marking a significant expansion for the region's first nuclear facility.

The new unit will feature the advanced HPR1000 (Hualong One) pressurized water reactors, each capable of generating 1,080 MW. Once completed, these reactors are expected to produce nearly 10 billion kWh of electricity annually, supporting the needs of a population of 1 million.

This project follows the successful completion of the first phase, where units one to four became fully operational in 2016. Approved on July 31, 2023, the second phase underscores China's commitment to expanding its nuclear energy capabilities, enhancing both production and living standards in the region.

China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) continues to play a pivotal role in driving forward sustainable energy solutions, positioning Ningde as a key player in the nation's energy landscape.
