China’s National Data Centers Achieve 80% Green Electricity Usage

China is making significant strides in sustainable technology as some of its advanced national data centers have achieved an impressive 80% usage rate of green electricity. This milestone was announced by the National Data Administration during a press conference in Beijing on Monday.

Since February 2022, China has been developing an integrated national big data system, which includes the establishment of eight national computing hubs and 10 national data center clusters. By the end of March this year, the computing power of these clusters surpassed 1.46 million standard racks, with green electricity utilization reaching approximately 80% in some of the most advanced centers.

Du Wei, director of the Department of Digital Technology and Infrastructure Construction under the National Data Administration, emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance the integration of computing power and electricity. \"We will continue with efforts to promote the integrated development of computing power and electricity by supporting non-hub data centers in the central and western regions rich in green power resources to integrate into the national computing power network construction, so as to improve the protection capability of the national integrated computing power network,\" he stated.

Looking ahead, the National Data Bureau plans to accelerate the construction of the national integrated computing power network. The focus will be on advancing the coordinated development of multi-source heterogeneous computing power and promoting the convergence of various computing resources to the national hubs. Additionally, the bureau aims to guide domestic telecom operators in improving the efficiency of public transmission channels, fostering collaboration between industrial data and computing power, and enhancing data processing and governance capabilities.

These initiatives reflect China's commitment to building a robust and sustainable digital infrastructure, positioning the country as a leader in green technology and innovation.
