China's AI giant iFLYTEK is set to expand its global footprint by establishing an international headquarters in Hong Kong's premier incubator, Cyberport. The company, along with its subsidiary iFLYHEALTH, plans to invest 400 million Hong Kong dollars ($51.22 million) over the next five years.
According to Cyberport's press release, the investment will facilitate the creation of an international business headquarters, a robust R&D center, and a trade and capital management platform. A dedicated team of 150 members will spearhead research and development efforts and drive the company's overseas market expansion, aiming to cultivate an AI ecosystem with tens of thousands of developers.
Furthermore, iFLYHEALTH will establish an international research institute at Cyberport, focusing on cutting-edge technology that integrates medical health and AI. This initiative underscores iFLYTEK's commitment to advancing health technology through artificial intelligence.
Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR government, highlighted the government's unwavering support for Hong Kong's innovation and technology sector. \"AI and life and health technology are key focus areas for our technological development,\" Sun stated. \"Hong Kong has already attracted leading enterprises both domestically and internationally, and an AI ecosystem is taking shape.\"
Simon Chan Sai-ming, Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, described iFLYTEK's participation as a significant milestone for Hong Kong's AI landscape. He expressed confidence that the company's investment will bolster innovation, R&D, and the commercialization of AI products and technologies, thereby attracting further AI investments from around the world.
