China’s Booming Digital Economy Drives Job Growth and Innovation

Over the past decade, the Chinese mainland has made significant strides in integrating digital technology with its real economy, yielding impressive results.

According to the latest report on the development of Digital China released by the National Data Administration, the value-added output of core industries in the digital economy reached 10 percent of the Chinese mainland's total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023.

The intelligent manufacturing equipment industry in the Chinese mainland has seen its value surpass 3.2 trillion yuan (approximately $450 billion).

For three consecutive years, the Chinese mainland has rolled out smart manufacturing pilot projects, establishing 421 national-level demonstration factories and over 10,000 provincial-level digital workshops and smart factories.

Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) have been implemented in more than 90 percent of these demonstration plants. Additionally, 5G technology has been widely adopted in areas like quality inspection and mining production. The Industrial Internet now encompasses all major sectors, with over 200 established application examples.

This vibrant digital economy has fueled a strong demand for digital talents, creating expansive opportunities for career development. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security estimates that between 25 million to 30 million digitalization professionals are needed to meet the demands of the Chinese mainland's digital economy.
