DJI Enters Booming E-Bike Market with Avinox Drive System

In a bold move to expand its technological prowess, DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and innovative camera technology, unveiled the Avinox Drive System on Wednesday at Eurobike 2024. This groundbreaking e-bike drive system is set to redefine the electric mountain bike (eMTB) experience, offering riders unmatched power, endurance, and intelligent features.

DJI's venture into the e-bike market leverages its extensive expertise in battery and motor technology, honed through years of developing advanced drones and camera stabilization systems. \"DJI's legacy of passion for innovation, as well as our expertise in battery and motor technology accumulated in drones and camera stabilization systems, have led us to the creation of Avinox,\" said Christina Zhang, senior director of corporate strategy at DJI. She added, \"It is a natural move for DJI to expand into this field as we have been mastering the technologies essential to an electric bike system, in terms of reliable motor development, battery management, mechanical design and engineering.\"

E-bikes have surged in popularity across Europe and the United States, particularly among cycling enthusiasts who enjoy sport and off-road adventures. The pedal-assisted motor makes e-bikes ideal for tackling longer distances and hilly terrains, with prices ranging from $200 to $5,000 to reflect their enhanced capabilities.

The future of e-bikes appears exceptionally bright. Market research firm Allied Market Research projects the global e-bike market to reach a staggering $118.6 billion by 2030, boasting an annual growth rate exceeding 10 percent. This growth trajectory significantly outpaces that of consumer drones, valued at an estimated $2.75 billion.

In the United States, e-bike sales in 2021 surpassed total sales of electric and hybrid vehicles, a trend even more pronounced in Europe. Countries like Germany, with a strong cycling culture, have seen e-bikes outsell traditional bicycles for some time.

China continues to dominate the manufacturing supply chain, exporting a remarkable 9.66 million e-bikes in 2022 alone. However, the e-bike market is evolving beyond mere volume. Consumers are now prioritizing features such as lightweight design, intelligent systems, extended battery ranges, and enhanced safety.

The e-bike drive system sector has long been dominated by established players like Bosch and Xilang. DJI's introduction of the Avinox system is poised to intensify competition in this rapidly growing market. According to a DJI representative, the Avinox e-bike system strikes a groundbreaking balance between performance and weight, positioning the company to effectively compete in the new era of the e-bike market.
