The Chinese Mainland Launches Innovative Marine Facility Combining Wind Power and Aquaculture

The Chinese mainland takes a significant step towards sustainable innovation with the launch of a groundbreaking marine facility by the state-owned CHN Energy Investment Group (CHN Energy) on Friday. This pioneering project seamlessly integrates wind power generation with fish farming, setting a new standard in renewable energy and aquaculture.

Situated in a marine farm off the coast of Putian in southeastern Fujian Province, the facility boasts a robust 4-megawatt offshore wind turbine. At full capacity, this turbine is capable of producing an impressive 96,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each day, according to CHN Energy.

Beyond energy generation, the facility features a hexagonal aquaculture area equipped with advanced technology for remote monitoring and evaluation of fish health. This ensures not only efficient fish farming but also the sustainability of marine life within the ecosystem.

Designed to endure the harsh conditions of a typhoon-prone area, the facility is built to withstand typhoons with wind speeds reaching up to 50.9 meters per second. This resilience underscores the Chinese mainland's commitment to creating durable and reliable renewable energy solutions.

This initiative is part of the broader green drive by the Chinese mainland, which continues to expand its renewable energy capacity. Latest data from the National Energy Administration reveal that the newly installed renewable energy capacity reached 63.67 million kW in the first quarter of 2024, marking a remarkable 34 percent increase year on year.

As part of its environmental commitment, the Chinese mainland has announced its targets to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, reinforcing its dedication to a sustainable future.
