With approximately 3,000 exhibitors showcasing their latest products—from PV modules to energy storage systems—the event attracted around 111,000 trade visitors from across the globe. Notably, this year marked the largest participation from the Chinese mainland, with 976 exhibitors taking part, closely followed by Germany’s 934.
Innovative Green Boost
Among the standout advancements was Chinese company LONGI Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (LONGI) achieving a milestone by raising the photoelectric conversion efficiency of its silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells to an impressive 30.1 percent. This breakthrough is expected to pave the way for mass production in the coming years, showcasing China’s relentless innovation in the solar sector.
Markus Elsaesser, founder and CEO of German Solar Promotion GmbH, praised the significant role of Chinese manufacturers, stating, \\"Their global market share is very high, driving innovations that benefit the decarbonization of industries and societies worldwide.\\"
According to SolarPower Europe, Germany installed a staggering 15 GW of new PV capacity in 2023, a growth of over 100 percent year-on-year, ranking fourth globally. Countries like Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands also saw substantial growth, with 14 of the 31 countries boasting over 1 GW of PV capacity being in the European Union.
Chinese company JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd. (JA Solar) also made a significant impact, with its diverse range of solar panels being deployed across Europe in various settings, from private homes to large factories and supermarkets. Zhu Daocheng, vice president of JA Solar, emphasized the increasing role of the Chinese PV industry in Europe’s renewable energy landscape.
Win-Win Cooperation
Elsaesser highlighted the comprehensive value chain built by China’s PV industry, which has been instrumental in providing Europe with competitive products essential for green transition goals. He advocated for continued cooperation without erecting barriers between regions.
Qu Shuaiyuan, CEO of Beny New Energy GmbH, pointed out the substantial potential in European markets like Germany, France, and Spain, where sunny climates and high demand for solar power offer enormous opportunities. By deepening partnerships, companies are able to deliver tailored solar solutions for local needs.
German company Axitec Energy, a leading solar module provider in Europe, has long collaborated with Chinese manufacturers, and Cristina Lovato, marketing manager at Axitec Energy, affirmed that China's advancements in the PV sector have been pivotal in advancing Europe’s green transition.
Dennis She, vice president of LONGI, expressed optimism about the future, stating, \\"Europe is committed to achieving its energy transition goals, and Chinese companies, with their expertise and experience, are well-positioned to provide high-quality PV solutions that will boost renewable energy development through international cooperation.\\"
