Over 300 Participants Gather in Chongqing for Belt and Road Skills Competition

The second Belt and Road International Skills Competition is set to take place in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality from June 24 to 26. This year, the event is attracting over 300 participants, referees, and related personnel from 60 countries and regions.

Among the participants, the team from Tonga, a Pacific island nation, was the first to arrive at the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport on Thursday night. The team comprises five members, including a leader, two referees, and two players, who will compete in events related to Internet of Things installation and commissioning, as well as information network cabling.

Fatuimoana Pahulu, the leader of the Tongan team, shared that this marks his first visit to China and the inaugural participation of his team in the competition. He expressed optimism about learning from China in the fields of information technology and computers, with the goal of bringing this new knowledge back to Tonga.

Semisi Tuimotulalo Hopoi, another team member, conveyed his excitement about the competition and mentioned that he has been studying the Chinese language in Beijing for six years.

The competition is co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Development and Reform Commission. Upholding principles of \"Openness, Intelligence, Green Development, Safety, and Uniqueness,\" the second Belt and Road International Skills Competition features 11 skills areas from the WorldSkills Competition and seven additional areas tailored to the industrial development needs of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries.

Wang Xiaojun, an official with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, highlighted that the event will include a diverse array of competitions, exchanges, and exhibitions. She emphasized the crucial role of digital technology in organizing and supporting the competition, including the use of AI to assist in judging processes.
