Chinese Mainland and France Launch SVOM Satellite to Explore Gamma-Ray Bursts

The Chinese mainland and France have successfully launched the Space-based Multi-band Variable Object Monitor (SVOM) satellite on June 22. This mission marks the culmination of nearly two decades of collaboration between Chinese and French scientists.

The SVOM satellite is designed to capture gamma-ray bursts, which are intense flashes of gamma rays that flicker like fireworks in the farthest reaches of the universe. By studying these phenomena, scientists hope to gain deeper insights into the origins and mechanisms of some of the universe's most energetic events.

Launched using a Long March-2C rocket, the SVOM has been placed into an orbit over 600 kilometers above Earth. This strategic positioning allows the satellite to monitor the cosmos with high precision and reliability, paving the way for future astronomical discoveries.
