US Imposes Sanctions on Kaspersky Lab Leaders Over Cybersecurity Concerns

The United States has imposed sanctions on 12 senior leaders of the Russia-based cybersecurity firm, Kaspersky Lab. This move comes just a day after the US banned the sale of Kaspersky's popular antivirus software on national security grounds.

The sanctions target key company executives, including the Chief Business Development Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Legal Officer, Corporate Communications Chief, and others. Notably, the Chief Executive Officer and the company itself were spared from the restrictions, according to a statement from the Treasury Department.

\"Today's action against the leadership of Kaspersky Lab underscores our commitment to ensure the integrity of our cyber domain and to protect our citizens against malicious cyber threats,\" said Brian E. Nelson, the U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. \"The United States will take action where necessary to hold accountable those who would seek to facilitate or otherwise enable these activities.\"

Responding to the sanctions, the Kremlin stated that the US decision to ban Kaspersky's software is a typical measure by Washington to stifle foreign competition in favor of American products.
