Ilya Sutskever Leaves OpenAI to Start Safe AI Venture

In a significant move within the artificial intelligence community, Ilya Sutskever, the co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, announced the launch of his new AI company. The venture, named Safe Superintelligence, is dedicated to creating a secure and ethical AI environment amidst the rapidly expanding generative AI landscape dominated by major tech firms.

Sutskever shared the news in a post on X, emphasizing the company's commitment to safety and progress without being hindered by short-term commercial pressures. \"Our singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles, and our business model means safety, security and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures,\" he stated.

Joining him as co-founders are former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, the co-founder of Cue and former AI lead at Apple. Together, they aim to steer the future of AI towards responsible and sustainable innovation.

Sutskever's departure from the Microsoft-backed OpenAI in May followed his pivotal role in the tumultuous events surrounding CEO Sam Altman's dismissal and subsequent rehiring last November. After Altman's return, Sutskever was removed from the company's board, paving the way for his new entrepreneurial endeavor.
