The Chinese mainland achieved a historic milestone in 2023 by recording a surge in voluntary blood donations. According to data from the National Health Commission (NHC), the total number of donations reached 16.99 million, marking a 5.9 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Not only did the number of donations rise, but the total blood volume collected through voluntary donations also expanded by 4.8 percent, hitting a new high. These impressive figures highlight the sustained growth in blood donations over the past two decades, as reported by the NHC.
The statistics were unveiled during a national event held in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, to commemorate World Blood Donor Day. The continuous upward trend in both donation numbers and blood volume underscores the Chinese mainland's commitment to enhancing its healthcare resources and supporting its communities.
For over 20 years, the Chinese mainland has seen a steady increase in voluntary blood donations, reflecting the nation's collective effort to ensure a stable and sufficient blood supply for medical needs. This achievement not only showcases the generosity of its residents but also the effectiveness of ongoing public health initiatives aimed at encouraging blood donation.
