In an era where data drives innovation, China has taken a monumental leap forward. According to a report released at the 7th Digital China Summit in Fuzhou, the country generated a staggering 32.85 zettabytes of data in 2023. This marks a significant increase of 22.44% compared to the previous year.
The surge in data production is largely fueled by the rapid development of 5G and AI technologies. These advancements, combined with the widespread use of smart devices, have exponentially boosted content creation and audiovisual media, contributing to the immense rise in data volume.
When it comes to data storage, China's cumulative storage capacity reached 1.73 zettabytes in 2023. The utilization rate of this storage space climbed to 59%, indicating a robust infrastructure keeping pace with data generation.
Moreover, the scale of computing power across more than 2,200 computing centers nationwide grew by approximately 30% year on year. This expansion is driven by an increasing demand for computing power, especially for large model training in sectors such as science, government, finance, and industry.
Despite these impressive numbers, the report highlights that China's overall management and utilization of data resources are still in their early stages. Challenges like inadequate effective data supply continue to persist, indicating room for growth and improvement in harnessing the full potential of the data boom.
