Lari Lehtio, the lead author of the study and a professor of protein and structural biology at the University of Oulu, has been at the forefront of protein research for over 13 years. His team's pioneering work began in the early stages of the pandemic, focusing on developing compounds that can inhibit the virus's activity.

The research, recently published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, highlights the potential of MDOLL-0229 not only to protect against COVID-19 but also to offer defense against future coronavirus threats.
