China’s Chang’e-6 Lunar Probe Set to Launch on May 3

The Chinese mainland's China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that the Chang'e-6 lunar probe is scheduled for launch on May 3. This mission is poised to make history by collecting samples from the far side of the moon, a first in human exploration.

Preparations are advancing smoothly at the Wenchang Space Launch Site in Hainan Province. The Long March-5 Y8 carrier rocket will soon undergo refueling with propellant to ensure readiness for the upcoming launch.

Given the narrow launch window of 50 minutes over two consecutive days, the mission's rocket team has meticulously designed 10 different trajectories to maximize the chances of a successful mission. On Wednesday, the Wenchang Space Launch Site conducted a final rehearsal, while the site's meteorological system enhanced its monitoring and analysis processes to secure optimal launch conditions.

The combination of the Chang'e-6 lunar probe and the Long March-5 Y8 carrier rocket was vertically transferred to the launch area on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the mission's countdown.
