Chang’e-6 Lunar Probe Set to Launch from Wenchang Space Center

The Chinese mainland's Chang'e-6 lunar probe is poised for launch after successfully completing a final systematic joint rehearsal on Wednesday. Key departments, including the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in Hainan Province, the Beijing Aerospace Control Center, the Xi'an Satellite Control Center, and the Yuanwang space-tracking ship, collaborated to ensure a seamless launch process.

According to the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the launch is scheduled for May 3. The comprehensive rehearsal aimed to fine-tune cooperation among the various organizations involved in the mission.

A Long March 5 carrier rocket, carrying the 8.2-metric-tonne Chang'e-6 probe, was moved to its launch tower at the Wenchang Space Launch Center on Saturday morning. Prior to Wednesday's rehearsal, extensive tests, including technical evaluations and fueling procedures, were conducted to prepare for the mission.

Given the transition from dry to rainy season in Wenchang, the launch site organized pre-launch meteorological consultations. The meteorological system conducted simulation exercises and enhanced monitoring of data related to thunderstorms and heavy precipitation in the launch area and its surroundings.

Additionally, vigilant monitoring of changes in the shallow wind field around important buildings was carried out to ensure optimal conditions for the launch.
