Shenzhou-18 Crew Mission Nears Liftoff with Successful Final Rehearsal

The countdown to China's Shenzhou-18 mission is accelerating as the final pre-launch rehearsal was successfully completed on Tuesday, according to China Media Group (CMG).

During the rehearsal, both the rocket and spacecraft underwent rigorous electrical performance tests, while astronauts and support systems at the launch site carried out a comprehensive launch drill. Officials reported that all components are in optimal condition, marking a significant milestone toward the mission's scheduled liftoff.

Zhao Bingkun from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center revealed that the Shenzhou-18 mission introduced a streamlined testing process. “Starting from the Shenzhou-18 mission, we optimized the process and no longer test the backup rocket,” Zhao explained. “As a result, we shortened the launch cycle and improved work efficiency.”

This mission is set to be the first crewed launch in April for China’s manned space project since the establishment of the China Space Station. April poses unique challenges, being the windiest and sandiest month at the northwest China launch center. Meteorological staff have meticulously analyzed wind speed data over the past decade to develop multiple contingency response plans, ensuring the mission's success despite environmental hurdles.

On April 17, the spacecraft paired with the Long March-2F carrier rocket was transferred to the launch area, as announced by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA). The mission aims to send three astronauts to the China Space Station for a six-month stay, further solidifying China's presence in space exploration.

The Shenzhou-18 mission showcases China's advancements in space technology and its commitment to expanding human activity beyond Earth. As the launch date approaches, global eyes remain keenly focused on this ambitious endeavor.
