China’s Second Domestically-Built Cruise Ship Enters Final Assembly

The final assembly of the Chinese mainland's second large cruise ship has commenced at a dock in Shanghai Municipality, signaling a significant stride in the nation's burgeoning cruise industry, according to China Media Group (CMG).

A ceremonial keel laying took place on Saturday at the No. 2 dock of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS). Following this milestone, the hull sections will be rapidly assembled in a modular fashion, akin to putting together building blocks, as reported by CMG.

Chen Jianwei, assistant general manager at SWS and construction director of the cruise ship project, highlighted that keel laying marks a pivotal moment in ship construction, allowing for continuous and accelerated outfitting of the vessel.

This development underscores that the Chinese mainland has effectively established robust mass design and construction capabilities within the cruise ship sector, Chen noted. The swift progress of this project reflects China's commitment to expanding its footprint in the global cruise industry.
