China to Showcase Breakthrough Sci-Tech Innovations at 2024 Zhongguancun Forum

China's highly anticipated 2024 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) is set to take place in Beijing from April 25 to 29, spotlighting cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), life sciences, and new materials. The event promises to unveil a series of major scientific and technological achievements, according to an official from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, highlighted during a press conference that the forum will establish a trade and cooperation platform featuring over 3,000 sci-tech achievements from more than 40 countries and regions. This initiative underscores China's commitment to opening up and fostering international collaboration.

Since its inception in 2007, the ZGC Forum has evolved into a national-level open innovation platform and an international forum focused on innovation and development. This year's theme, \"Innovation: Building a Better World,\" will encompass five major sections, including forums and meetings, technology trading, unveiling of achievements, and competitions in cutting-edge fields.

With up to 120 events planned, the forum will invite top scientists, including Nobel laureates, to engage in discussions on open innovation and explore mutual development opportunities. Yu Yingjie, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Committee, announced that 19 international organizations and foreign government departments will host 17 parallel forums.

The competitions in cutting-edge fields have attracted over 3,100 entries from 75 countries and regions, covering areas such as quantum information, photon computing, and the metaverse. Additionally, the eighth China Science Fiction Convention, a parallel sub-forum of the 2024 ZGC Forum, will focus on technology, creation, and industry development within the science fiction realm from April 27 to 29.

Located in northwestern Beijing, Zhongguancun is home to more than 17,000 national high-tech enterprises and is renowned as \"China's Silicon Valley.\" In 2023, the total revenue of major enterprises in Zhongguancun is expected to reach 8.6 trillion yuan (approximately $1.2 trillion), accounting for about 16.7 percent of the total revenue from the 178 high-tech zones across the country.
