China to Host Inaugural Space Cooperation Forum with Latin America and Caribbean

Marking a significant step in global space collaboration, China is set to host its first-ever Space Cooperation Forum with Latin American and Caribbean countries during the upcoming Space Day of China on April 24.

The China-Latin America and the Caribbean Space Cooperation Forum, co-hosted by the China National Space Administration (CNSA), China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Hubei provincial government, will take place in Wuhan from April 24 to 26. Deputy Director Lyu Bo of the CNSA highlighted that the forum will feature an opening ceremony, a main forum, and four specialized sub-forums focusing on space infrastructure's role in sustainable development, deep space exploration, innovative space industry chains, and global governance in outer space.

Nearly 90 delegates representing 24 countries and eight international organizations are expected to attend, including government officials, industry leaders, researchers, and private sector representatives. The event is part of a broader celebration of Space Day of China, which includes the China Space Conference, the China Space Culture and Art Forum, and a space science popularization exhibition in Wuhan.

Around 500 activities nationwide, such as space open days, popular science lectures, knowledge contests, and discussions, will complement the main events, engaging enthusiasts and professionals alike. Since its inception in 2016, Space Day of China commemorates the launch of the first Chinese satellite, Dongfanghong-1, on April 24, 1970.
