The Tarim Basin, a key natural gas hub in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is experiencing a significant boost in gas production. Since 2024, 12 new gas wells have been commissioned in the Tarim Oilfield, enhancing the region's gas supply capabilities in southern Xinjiang. These developments have elevated the oilfield's average daily gas output to over 16 million cubic meters.
Infrastructure improvements are also playing a pivotal role in this growth. A new 4,000-kilometer pipeline now channels gas from Xinjiang directly to Shanghai, one of China's major eastern metropolises. This extensive pipeline network not only ensures a steady supply to meet the increasing demand but also strengthens the energy connectivity between western and eastern China.
In addition to the wells and pipelines, the Pamirs Plateau has seen the construction of a new natural gas processing plant. This facility has tripled the area's daily processing capacity from 1 million to 3 million cubic meters, further supporting the region's energy infrastructure. Overall, 32 oil and gas fields have been established around the Tarim Basin over the past 35 years, marking a robust exploration and development campaign that continues to drive the region's economic growth.
