China's Qinghai Province has announced the successful completion of its germplasm resources bank on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, marking a significant advancement in understanding and protecting the region's unique biodiversity.

Led by the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the germplasm bank serves as a comprehensive platform for sample management, genetic analysis, and data sharing, facilitating collaborative research and conservation efforts.

The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with a variety of specialized storage units, including ultra-low temperature freezers for long-term preservation, dedicated spaces for living plants and animals, fish storage areas, and sections for medicinal materials and microorganisms.

With over 50,000 germplasm resources preserved, this advanced infrastructure significantly bolsters conservation initiatives on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, ensuring the protection of invaluable genetic diversity for future generations.
