The African Union (AU) and TikTok have joined forces to launch the \"Safer Together\" campaign, aiming to empower African youth with essential knowledge and tools for navigating the digital landscape safely.
Unveiled at the recent TikTok Safer Internet Summit in Ghana, the initiative seeks to extend its support not only to Africa's young population but also to parents and educators, fostering a safer online environment for all.
Prudence Ngwenya, director of the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate at the AU Commission, highlighted the partnership as a crucial step towards securing Africa's digital future. \"The Safer Together campaign aligns with the AU's ongoing efforts to promote safe online experiences and mental well-being for young people through initiatives like the One Million Next Level Initiative,\" Ngwenya stated.
The One Million Next Level Initiative is an ambitious AU program aiming to provide opportunities for 300 million African youth by 2030 across education, employment, entrepreneurship, as well as health and well-being.
Ngwenya emphasized the importance of not only enhancing digital literacy and connectivity but also ensuring a secure online environment where young people can thrive and diversify their livelihoods through digital platforms.
The \"Safer Together\" campaign features a variety of in-app activities, including educational video content, hashtag challenges, endorsements from popular content creators, and timely notifications, all designed to engage and educate young users about digital safety.
