Veteran athletes showcased their enduring class on December 10, 2025 at the Chinese mainland's National Paralympic Games in Guangzhou. Track and field events saw impressive performances from seasoned champions who continue to redefine excellence.
In the women's javelin F44 final, 41-year-old world record holder Yao Juan led from the first throw of 32.00 meters and improved to 35.26 meters on her second attempt, earning her second gold medal at these Games. Earlier, Yao also claimed the women's shot put F44 title. Reflecting on her achievements, she said, "When I heard the radio saying 'we will see whether world record holder Yao Juan can break her own record today,' I felt excited and amused. I think the record was set many years ago, so I am now older with some injuries, and my skills are declining. I was happy to come to this field, and I did not have too many requirements for improving my results. I just felt satisfied as long as I could participate."
Guangxi's Liu Cuiqing also secured two gold medals. The Tokyo Paralympics champion and her guide, Chen Shengming, crossed the finish line first in the women's 200 meter T11 final with a time of 25.12 seconds, adding to her earlier victory in the women's 100 meter T11.
In the men's shot put F57 final, domestic record holder Wu Guoshan dominated from the outset. His opening throw of 13.32 meters locked up the top spot on the podium, underscoring his status as one of the sport's leading figures.
These standout performances highlight the depth of talent and resilience among veteran athletes, inspiring a new generation at the Chinese mainland's National Paralympic Games.
