Zhang Boheng Leads Chinese Torch Relay in Greece for Milano Cortina 2026

Earlier this week, on November 26, the flame for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics was lit in Kalavryta, a mountain town west of Athens. This marked the start of a week-long Greek relay, weaving through historic landscapes as it makes its way toward Italy.

Olympic gymnastics silver medalist Zhang Boheng took pride in leading four members of the Chinese delegation: basketball star Wang Siyu, cross-country runner Wu Yongbo, and sprinter Chen Yujie – who just claimed gold in both the 100m and 200m at China's 15th National Games earlier this month. Together, they carried the flame across the iconic Rio–Antirrio Bridge, which links the mainland to the Peloponnese peninsula.

"I feel honored and proud to represent the Chinese delegation in the torch relay," Zhang said. "It's also a huge encouragement for myself."

Wu Yongbo added, "I hope all Chinese winter Olympic athletes can achieve good results and realize their Olympic dreams in Milan."

After traversing coastal towns like Patras and showcasing Greece's storied heritage, the relay will conclude in Athens. On December 4, the flame will be officially handed over to the Italian Games organizers, setting the stage for the global celebration in Milan and Cortina in early 2026.

As anticipation builds among fans worldwide, this relay offers a glimpse of the Olympic spirit in action – uniting athletes, fans, and communities across borders in a journey fueled by passion and perseverance.
