At this year's 15th National Games, held across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the women's volleyball tournament in the Macao SAR stood out as a beacon of unity and perseverance.
The Macao SAR captain, Qin Xinxian, a lifelong fan of the Chinese women's national team, led her squad in front of a home crowd. “The Chinese women's volleyball team once won five consecutive championships,” she said. “After those players from that era became coaches, the new generation they trained has continuously inherited that spirit.”
Spectators flocked to the arena to experience the high-stakes matches. Fan Xu Haoqin described the scene: “The spirit of women's volleyball lies in a group of people striving together toward a common goal, pushing themselves to their utmost limits. This spirit resonates with how people have gathered here from all over the region to watch and feel this collective strength.”
Data from ticketing platforms showed a surge in attendance compared with previous editions, reflecting growing enthusiasm among young sports fans. For many, the matches were more than a competition—they were a celebration of teamwork, resilience and community.
As the tournament wrapped up, the spirit of Chinese women's volleyball continued to echo across the Greater Bay Area, reminding us how sport can bridge cultures and inspire a generation of global citizens.
