On Monday, a busy day at the 15th National Games delivered 33 gold medals across 22 events, with standout moments in diving, swimming and weightlifting.
At the Guangdong Olympic Centre diving arena, Shanghai's Chen Yuxi overcame a fever to claim the women's 10m platform crown with a score of 412.30 points. After a shaky preliminary, the 20-year-old nailed an 81.60 on her 407C dive in the final to hold off Sichuan's world champion Lu Wei by 28.30 points. Shandong's Liu Zihan completed the podium.
In the men's 3m springboard, Olympic double gold medallist Wang Zongyuan dominated a field that featured four world champions. The 24-year-old opened with an 88.40 on his 407C and sealed his first National Games gold in the event with a near-perfect 106.40 final dive, finishing on 549.85. Hubei's Zheng Jiuyuan and Guangdong's He Chao claimed silver and bronze.
In Shenzhen's aquatic centre, 18-year-old Zhang Zhanshuo of Shandong won the men's 400m freestyle in 3:42.82, smashing his own junior world record. He edged out a field including Asian record-holder Sun Yang and 2024 Olympic champion Pan Zhanle, with Hubei's Xu Haibo taking silver and Zhejiang's Fei Liwei bronze. Pan finished fifth and Sun sixth.
Meanwhile, weightlifting star Hou secured her third straight National Games title with a commanding performance on the platform, cementing her status as one of the sport’s rising legends.
