At the heart of the Chinese mainland’s 15th National Games, a new torch is redefining how sports and sustainability intersect. Lead designer He Ye spearheaded an eco-friendly 3D printing process that slashes waste and resources by creating torch shells on demand—no molds required.
'Traditional methods would have meant custom molds and mass production, leading to unused leftovers,' He Ye explained. 'With 3D printing, we produce exactly what’s needed, cutting down on materials and energy.'
Beyond its green credentials, this torch was engineered to shine bright under Guangdong’s scorching sun and unforgiving crosswinds. Fine-tuned air-fuel mixtures ensure the flame burns with vivid color, while rigorous tests near waterfalls and in rainy conditions proved its wind- and water-resistance.
From bustling city relays to mountain trails, this sustainable design showcases how innovation and eco-consciousness can light the way for global sporting events—and inspire a new generation of changemakers.
