Zhang Qingying’s Bronze Boosts China’s Return to World Gym Podium

In a thrilling comeback for China, Zhang Qingying secured the bronze medal in the women's all-around at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, ending the nation's six-year podium drought in the event.

Qualifying fourth, Zhang set a steady tone with a solid vault, before capitalizing on errors from rivals – Japan's Aiko Sugihara and American teen Dulcy Caylor – who both fell on the uneven bars. Zhang delivered a clean bars routine, propelling her into second place heading into the balance beam.

Despite a nervy beam performance, Zhang's composed lines briefly put her in the lead. In the final floor rotation, she chose a traditional Chinese-style choreography that captivated both crowd and judges, contributing to her total of 54.633 points and the bronze.

Russia's Olympic champion Angelina Melnikova claimed gold, while the USA's Leanne Wong took silver. Reflecting on her achievement, Zhang said, "I'm very honoured and happy to make the podium in the all-around event after six years of absence for China. A new cycle, a new start. I will continue to work hard and become more confident."
