Wembanyama Shines as Spurs Rout Guangzhou in Preseason

In a blend of elite talent and growing global appeal, the San Antonio Spurs kicked off their preseason with a statement 119-88 win over the CBA's Guangzhou Loong Lions at the Frost Bank Center Tuesday night.

Rising star Victor Wembanyama needed just 16 minutes to make his mark, finishing with 9 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night, alongside 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks. His all-around impact set the tone early and gave fans a taste of his evolving game.

The Spurs exploded in the first half, outscoring Guangzhou 74-45. Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie and Luke Kornet each chipped in 16 points, helping San Antonio build a commanding lead before halftime.

Guangzhou fought back in the third quarter, with Frank Kaminsky pouring in 22 points and Victor Oladipo adding 20. But San Antonio’s depth and defensive intensity proved too much, limiting the visitors to just 18 points as the Spurs closed out the game.

This cross-border exhibition underscores basketball’s role in cultural exchange and the growing appetite for NBA action among Asian audiences, fueled by digital streaming and global fan communities.

Up next, the Spurs hit the road to face the Miami Heat, while Guangzhou continues its American tour against the Los Angeles Clippers in Oceanside, California.
