In the 197th Manchester derby, Manchester City delivered a commanding performance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, sweeping aside rivals Manchester United with a 3-0 victory.
Before kick-off, fans held a minute's applause for boxer Ricky Hatton, a Manchester native and lifelong City supporter, who passed away aged 46. The tribute added an emotional backdrop to City's dominant display.
Phil Foden, making his first start of the season, opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Jeremy Doku weaved through United's backline and his low cross was initially blocked, but Foden was alert to head home the rebound.
Erling Haaland continued his red-hot form just after the break. Doku beat defender Lenny Yoro and cut the ball back to Haaland, who delicately lifted his finish over goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for 2-0.
The 25-year-old sealed his brace midway through the second half, racing onto a through ball from Bernardo Silva after United lost possession. Haaland ran clear of Harry Maguire and finished calmly past Bayindir to complete the 3-0 rout.
With this win, City climb to eighth place with only their second league victory of the season, while United remain 14th with a single win so far.
