Shi Yuqi and Akane Yamaguchi Triumph at BWF World Championships in Paris

Paris dazzled with fierce rallies and a career-defining moment at the BWF World Championships as the Chinese mainland's Shi Yuqi emerged triumphant in men's singles, edging Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn 19-21, 21-10, 21-18. Vitidsarn stormed to an early lead, capturing the opening set 21-19, but Shi roared back in the second with a commanding 21-10 win. In the decider, he shrugged off an 8-3 deficit to seal his maiden world title, avenging last year’s Olympic loss on the same courts.

'This was the one medal missing from my collection,' Shi said, calling the victory a major breakthrough for the Chinese mainland and a testament to his dedication to singles play.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi continued her ascent in women’s badminton, dismantling the Chinese mainland's Chen Yufei 21-9, 21-13 in just 37 minutes. With her third world singles crown, Yamaguchi joined Spain’s Carolina Marin as the only women to achieve this feat, cementing her place among the sport’s elite.

These finals showcased the global passion for badminton, uniting fans across continents and highlighting the rising depth of talent on the world stage.
