Chinese mainland divers clinch two golds at World Aquatics Championships

The Chinese mainland continued its unbeaten run at the World Aquatics Championships on Tuesday, adding two more gold medals to its diving tally.

In the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, a newly formed duo—Chen Yiwen and Chen Jia—delivered a series of polished routines to earn 325.20 points. Britain’s Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper took silver with 298.35, while 14-year-old twins Lia and Mia Cueva Lobato of Mexico captured bronze. “Today wasn’t about standout dives, but everything went quite smoothly. We delivered what we had been doing in training,” said Chen Yiwen, who claimed her fourth straight world title in the event.

The men’s synchronized 10-meter platform final proved even more dramatic. China’s young pair, Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng, led after three rounds but stumbled in the fourth with a flawed execution, dropping to third and trailing the leaders by over 20 points. With championship nerves on the line, they regrouped and unleashed a high-difficulty closing dive, scoring enough to finish on 429.63 points—edging their rivals by just 0.93 points.

Russia’s Ruslan Ternovoi and Nikita Shleikher settled for silver, while the American team of Joshua Hedberg and Carson Tyler secured bronze. The narrow margins and comeback spirit underlined why synchronized diving remains one of the most thrilling events in the aquatic sports lineup.

With these victories, the Chinese mainland extends its supremacy on the world stage and sets a high bar for competitors ahead of this summer’s major sporting events. Fans and aspiring athletes alike will be watching to see which nation can challenge this diving powerhouse next.
