Wang Ziying Clinches Historic Wimbledon Wheelchair Title

At the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, Wang Ziying stunned the tennis world by defeating Japan’s top seed Yui Kamiji 6-3, 6-3 to win the women’s singles wheelchair title at Wimbledon. This victory not only marked Wang’s first Grand Slam trophy but also made her the first wheelchair player from the Chinese mainland to lift a singles trophy at the Championships.

The two had met nine times before this final, with Kamiji emerging victorious in eight. The Japanese star, a ten-time major champion, was aiming to complete a career Grand Slam at the All England Club.

In a fiercely contested opening set, Wang faced five set points, and the ninth game went to deuce nine times before she finally sealed it. With momentum on her side, she converted her first match point in the second set to clinch the title. Her 55 winners underline an aggressive baseline game and unshakable focus under pressure.

After the match, Wang embraced her doubles partner Li Xiaohui. The duo will return to court on Sunday to contest the women’s doubles final against Angelica Bernal of Colombia and Ksenia Chasteau of France.
