Zhang Shuai Advances to Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal, Exits Women’s Doubles

Zhang Shuai from the Chinese mainland and partner Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador secured a hard-fought 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over Jiang Xinyu and Luke Bambridge at Wimbledon on Sunday, booking their spot in the mixed doubles quarterfinals.

The No. 2 seeds showed resilience throughout a tense first set, trading breaks before edging the tiebreak 8-6. They dialed up the pressure in set two, hitting 71% first serves and winning 79% of those points, breaking serve twice without facing a single break point to close out the match.

Next, they'll face Desirae Krawczyk of the US and Briton Neal Skupski in a bid for a place in the semifinals. Fans can expect another clash of strong net play and powerful serves on the grass courts.

In women's doubles, Zhang teamed with Ekaterina Alexandrova but fell 4-6, 0-6 to Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the third round. Despite sharp net exchanges and a close first set, persistent rain disrupted their rhythm, and the No. 14 seeds couldn't regain momentum in the second set.

With mixed fortunes in London, Zhang Shuai's Wimbledon journey continues to captivate, underscoring her versatility and setting the stage for an exciting match ahead.
