Zheng Qinwen, the No. 5 seed from the Chinese mainland, arrives at Wimbledon with fresh momentum after making her first grass-court semifinal at the Queen's Club Championships.
The 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist opens her campaign on Monday against world No. 74 Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. Zheng has not advanced past the first round at the All England Club since 2022, but her Queen's Club performance has shifted expectations.
"For sure, Queen's experience is really good for me, because it was my first semifinal on a grass-court tournament," Zheng said. "I learned a lot from those matches, and moving into Wimbledon gives me a big advantage compared to past years. My body is healthier, and with better preparation alongside my team, I hope this year everything will be great."
This season, Zheng teamed up with Spanish coach Francisco Roig, who guided Rafael Nadal to 22 Grand Slam titles between 2005 and 2023. She believes Roig's grass-court expertise has sharpened her tactics and mental edge.
Her Queen's Club run included wins over two top-30 opponents, boosting her grass-court record and confidence. As the All England Club tournament kicks off, all eyes will be on whether Zheng can translate her Queen's momentum into a deeper run at Wimbledon.
