In a move set to reshape the esports landscape, Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Global Ambassador of the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025). The announcement was made today by the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), marking a powerful collaboration between traditional sport and competitive gaming.
A New Era of Athletic Unity
"As Global Ambassador, he bridges traditional sport and competitive gaming, helping spotlight the next generation of athletes competing for global glory," said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the EWCF. Ronaldo echoed that sentiment on X: "I'm proud to join the Esports World Cup as Global Ambassador – standing with esports athletes who rise above and inspire the next generation."
Ronaldo's Ongoing Esports Journey
This isn’t Ronaldo's first foray into the esports arena. In 2023, he joined the global announcement of EWC 2024 and attended its closing ceremony in Riyadh. Fans can even play as Ronaldo in one of this year’s tournament titles: "FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves."
EWC 2025: Where the Best Compete
Scheduled from July 7 to August 24 in Riyadh, EWC 2025 will bring together 2,000 elite players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries and regions. Competitors will battle across 25 tournaments in 24 games for a record-breaking $70 million-plus prize pool.
With Ronaldo at the helm as Global Ambassador, EWC 2025 aims to connect global communities, empower new talent, and push the boundaries of both sport and gaming culture.
