Shanghai Secures First Gold in U16 Women’s Football at 15th National Games

Shanghai claimed the first gold medal of the 15th National Games by beating Guangdong 1-0 in the women's U16 football final at Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on the southern Chinese mainland.

The match swung on two pivotal moments. In the 33rd minute, Guangdong won a penalty, but Shanghai goalkeeper Bai Shuiling dived to her right and denied Liu Yuke's effort.

Moments before the final quarter-hour, Shanghai won a spot kick of their own. Cheng Wandi stepped up in the 75th minute and converted with composure, sealing the victory and earning the city its first competitive gold at this edition of the Games.
