Chinese mainland squad gears up for FIBA Asia Cup with Beijing camp

With the FIBA Asia Cup looming in Saudi Arabia this August, the Chinese mainland squad has kicked off an intensive training camp in Beijing. From June 13 to July 23, 23 players will sharpen their physical skills and tactical play at the national training bureau.

Across eight tune-up games, the team will face a diverse slate of opponents—Tunisia, the Netherlands, Venezuela and Bosnia and Herzegovina—providing a crucial litmus test for lineup chemistry and strategy under pressure.

Club powerhouses are well represented: three players each from the Beijing Ducks and Guangdong Southern Tigers. Stars Hu Jinqiu and Zhu Junlong of reigning CBA champions the Guangsha Lions have also secured their spots, yet the absence of guard Sun Minghui—despite his strong season—still raises questions.

Liaoning’s contingent shrinks to Zhang Zhenlin alone after fitness struggles sidelined teammate Zhao Jiwei. Meanwhile, coach Wang Shilong has injected fresh energy with first-time call-ups Lei Meng, Liu Jiuyu and Li Xiangbo, signaling a blend of experience and youth.

With under two months to forge synergy, the Chinese mainland squad must balance star firepower with emerging talent. As they train under Beijing skies, all eyes will be on how this roster shapes up to challenge Asia’s best in Saudi Arabia.
