Oscar Piastri delivered a stunning performance at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, guiding McLaren to its first Spanish GP victory in 19 years. With calm precision, the 24-year-old Australian crossed the line 2.4 seconds ahead, securing a one-two finish alongside teammate Lando Norris.
The result extends Piastri's lead in the Formula One drivers' championship to 10 points, underlining his consistency with five wins in eight races this season. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium after a dramatic final stint.
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen adopted a high-risk three-stop strategy but slipped from third place and incurred a 10-second penalty following a collision with George Russell. The incident dropped him to 10th in the final classification.
Beyond the top three, Nico Hülkenberg impressed by climbing from 15th on the grid to fifth, while rookie Isack Hadjar and former champion Fernando Alonso delivered strong top-10 finishes for Racing Bulls and Aston Martin respectively.
Reflecting on his win, Piastri said, "It was a great weekend overall. We had the pace when it mattered and executed perfectly. I'm proud of the team's effort and excited to build on this momentum at the next race."
