Arthur Ashe Stadium to Get $800M US Open Overhaul

US Open is gearing up for a major transformation at Arthur Ashe Stadium thanks to an $800 million overhaul announced by the U.S. Tennis Association. Set against the iconic skyline of Flushing Meadows, this is the largest single investment in tournament history and it is all funded privately, without city support.

When it is done in time for the 2027 US Open, fans and players will see a $250 million player performance center right alongside the practice courts. Expect new locker rooms, lounges and an open air warmup area where athletes can dial in before match time. Courtside seating will jump from 3,000 to 5,000 spots, while the stadium total capacity stays near 24,000—keeping it the largest Grand Slam arena on tour.

Off the court, the stadium will welcome a fresh grand entrance, two luxury suite levels, expanded club and restaurant zones, wider concourses, updated restrooms and more escalators and elevators. Even better, the next two editions of the US Open—starting Aug 24 with a historic Sunday kickoff—will run without interruptions to play or fan access.

This upgrade comes as top players and organizers dig into the bigger business of tennis. A recent class action antitrust lawsuit argues that Grand Slam tournaments generated over $1.5 billion in 2024 but paid only 10 to 20 percent of revenues to players. Stars like Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff also joined a letter demanding bigger prize purses and a stronger voice in key decisions.

For young fans, entrepreneurs in sports tech and changemakers pushing for fairness, the renovation is more than a facelift. It signals how tradition meets innovation and how venues evolve to meet the needs of a global game. Stay tuned as Arthur Ashe Stadium rewrites its playbook for the next decade of tennis history.
